The five-day Royal Ascot Meet occurs during the early peak season for most horse. Its races are known to establish the year's form for the horses competing in its wide range of races and distances.
It is suitable, that given 2011 is the 300th Anniversary of Royal Ascot, the QIPCO British Champions Series should start its first Series in the same year having seven of Royal Ascot's races are part of the Series.
Three major QIPCO BCS races are on opening day June 14th.
The Queen Anne Stakes (1m, 4yo+) has lured six-year-old Goldikova back to England to repeat her success last year. She is up against very tough competition against powerful males like Canford Cliffs, Cape Blanco, Citiscape, Ransom Note and Rio Del La Plata. Flash Dance will be her pacemaker.
Given the mess in the Prix de Diane, one hopes Goldikova's jockey remembers that she is 2010 Horse of the Year in both England and France as well as being the three-times' winner of the Breeders' Cup Mile.
The King's Stand Stakes (5f, 3yo+) has attracted 19 of some of the world's finest sprinters - except Black Caviar who will compete in 2012 - and trainers.
Overdose is back for the Czech Republic. Todd Pletcher brought Bridgetown and Wesley Smith brought Holiday For Kitten to be ridden by Zenyatta's partner Mike Smith who is riding in Britain this Spring.
Star Witness is currently favourite and hails from Australia.
The European home team claims the favourites in Sole Power and game Kingsgate Native.
This is the most open race of the three starting the RA/BCS Series.
The St James's Palace Stakes (1m, 3yo) promises to be a thriller with eight taking on Frankel who is the highest-rated colt in the world at 130.
Japan is not affraid of him. It has sent Grand Prix Boss with Dubai World Cup winner Mirco Demuro on board. Dumuro is proving to be one of the world's top jockeys in and out of Italy along with his chum Frankie Dettori.
Dubawi Gold and Wootton Bassett return to the challenge against Frankel along with Dream Ahead, Excelebration, Rerouted, Godolphin's Neebras and Ballydoyle's Zoffany.
Many think Canford Cliffs will beat Goldikova. He may, but my heart is always with her.
I cannot predict the sprint outcome, but I cannot see any colt beating Frankel unless he has his first bad day.

So You Think By ½ Length Over Workforce
For several years now, the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Day at Sandown Park has been blessed with wonderful weather, huge enthusiastic crowds and a fascinating feature race.
The feature race, the Coral-Eclipse, is also part of the British Championship Series.
As predicted in Racing International's preview, the 1m2f7y distance on Turf was perfect for Ballydoyle's So You Think NZ (High Chaparral IRE) over stayer Workforce (King's Best USA).
There was no epic battle and the winning distance was only a half length.
The victory between two evenly-matched males came down to changed tactics and perhaps changed jockeys. SYT's trainer Aidan O'Brien learned what he needed to learn after losing the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot to Godolphin's battling stayer Rewilding (Tiger Hill IRE).
Though Frankie Dettori earned himself 10-day ban for excessive whipping of Rewilding, he rode masterfully eclipsing champion jockey Ryan Moore on SYT.
Moore, retained by Sir Michael Stoute, rode Workforce in the Coral-Eclipse and faced the same dangerous problem he had in the POW: his pacemakers faded and his principal horses wanted to lead far too soon.
O'Brien had Seamie Heffernan as SYT's jockey and he knows how to follow orders after being long eclipsed by Moore, Johnny Murtagh and Kieren Fallon.
Moore took off on Workforce near the four furlong marker leading effectively until patient Heffernan pulled his tongue-lolling horse off the rail comfort zone.
Australia's pride rallied to pass Workforce who fought back, but did not have a final kick to win.
SYT, who had an easier race, did win by a half length.
Why did stayer Rewilding win over SYT and Workforce did not?
Rewilding came from behind and used his stamina to wear down the 10-furlong specialist SYT.
Workforce was sent out too early, left exposed and used up his stamina in front.
Still - he only lost by a half length.
Both colts looked splendid, but So You Think is a big horse who is more mature at five (Australian five) and Workforce is still growing into his big frame at four.
O'Brien was thrilled that, removing his extra gear and letting the horse be himself with slightly changed tactics, proved SYT to be one of the best mile and 1¼m (8-10 furlongs) horses in the world.
He is full of plans to return to Australia for a crack at a third successive Tatts Cox Plate if quarantine issues can be resolved, the Irish Champions Stakes at Leopardstown or the Juddmonte International Stakes.
The Breeders' Cup Turf Classic or Classic are still in contention in November as he has paid a $25,000 Open Enrollment fee.
He definitely did not mention the Qatar Arc de Triomphe which is a 1½m race despite being betting favourite for it.
Many of us had doubts that So You Think would stay 1½m and it is obvious that his trainer does as well.
His connectios at Coolmore have St Nicholas Abbey and Pour Moi for the Arc. SYT would be better raced at shorter distances.
Workforce's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe was deeply disappointed and thought longer races were better for him.
Stoute suggested the Betfair King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot in thee weeks as his next possible option.
He added that "I'd like to go there but he's a big fella, 16.2h, and clean-limbed and the ground they produced last year at Ascot was too fast for him so that would be a concern."
Workforce's connections were more disappointed than his fans or the senior BHA handicapper, Phil Smith, who left him on his 128 rating though he ran to 124 or 125 in the Eclipse.
Smith also felt that So You Think did not improve on his 126 rating from the POW contest with Rewilding (128) by defeating Workforce whom he did not think ran up to form.
Timeform, true to its exhuberant form, boosted SYT to the same rating as Workforce at 133.
One thing is certain, Dirt horses do not get these ratings and one wonders if there are not much higher standards for Dirt.
Sri Putra was third in the Eclipse five lenghts behind Workforce.
Snow Fairy picked up briefly and then ran flat in fourth 3¾ lengths behind SP in her first race since December. Pacemaker Confront was last.
From the horse's mouth (Aidan O'Brien), do not bet on So You Think in the Arc, but you can be sure Workforce will be in it.

Victorious in Coral-Eclipse, So You Think is greeted by connections in winner's circle.

Coral-Eclipse Preview
Jockeys are jockeying for their share of the £226,840 winner's purse in the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Saturday at Sandown Park.
The 1m2f7y Turf race for 3yo+, part of the QIPCO British Champions' Series, has only five runners.
Three of the leading horses have changed jockeys.
Ryan Moore who was unfairly blamed for So You Think's loss to Rewilding at Royal Ascot returns to his retained trainer, Sir Michael Stoute, to ride Workforce.
So You Think's trainer, Aidan O'Brien of Ballydoyle, took responsibility for his loss to his Godolphin rival. O'Brien admitted that the horse was not at 100% peak for the race.
Seamie Heffernan, who should be riding more of Ballydoyle's big races, will ride So You Think.
Since there is real disagreement between punters and professionals on which horse, So You Think or Workforce, will win, both jockeys will be under tremendous pressure to prove their worth and their horse's.
This race is viewed as a preview to unseating Workforce as favourite to win the Arc de Triomphe for a second year.
Workforce, winner of both the Investec Derby and Arc last year at 1m4f, is a proven stayer.
There are doubts about SYT's stamina for longer races, but the Coral-Eclipse should be an ideal distance for him.
Johnny Murtagh, everyone's independent jockey and saviour, will be the new jockey for the filly Snow Fairy on her return after injury.
The always-underestimated Sri Putra retains Neil Callan and Jimmy Fortune rides Confront.
Some believe the above is the winning order with only the winner to be decided.
